C – Cram It: Fill your mind with God’s Word
The fight against sin begins in the mind. To kill sin, we must starve it of attention by flooding our thoughts with the superior beauty and truth of God's Word. It's not just about stopping bad thoughts; it's about crowding them out with better ones.
Key Truths
- God’s Word is the sword of the Spirit for our defense.
- Meditation is the bridge between reading and obedience.
- Truth is the only anchor that holds during the storm of temptation.
Action Steps
- Memorize one key verse related to your specific struggle this week.
- Carry a physical copy of Scripture or use the CLING app for quick access.
- Practice 'replacement technique': swap 15 minutes of scrolling for 15 minutes of reading.
Danger Sign
If you find yourself justifying 'one little look' or entertaining 'what if' scenarios, your mind is starving for truth. Silence is the breeding ground for sin.

Colossians 3:16

L – Logic: Renew your mind
Sin always speaks a lie to our hearts. To kill it, we must engage our minds with the logic of the gospel, exposing the emptiness of sin's promises and the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus our Lord.
Key Truths
- Sin promises life but delivers death.
- God's Word is the only source of absolute truth.
- Christ has already broken the power of sin.
- Renewal happens as we think on things above.
Danger Sign
Beware of logical fallacies that excuse 'small' sins. Rationalization is the first step toward drifting from the gospel's power.
Action Steps
- Identify the specific lie this sin is telling you.
- Locate a verse that directly contradicts that lie.
- Speak the truth of the gospel aloud to your soul.
- Ask God to align your desires with His truth.
I – Invest in New Clothes: Put on Christlikeness
Killing sin is not just an act of subtraction; it is an exchange. As we lay aside the heavy, tattered rags of our old self, we must intentionally 'clothe ourselves' with the Lord Jesus Christ. We don't just leave a void where sin once resided but we fill that space with the vibrant, life-giving virtues of our Savior, becoming more like Him in every thought and deed.
Key Truths
- We are new creations in Christ, legally and spiritually (2 Cor 5:17).
- Righteousness is both a gift received and a pursuit maintained.
- The goal of the Christian life is to mirror the character of Jesus.
Action Steps
- Identify the specific virtue that replaces your recurring sin (e.g., replace lying with truth-telling).
- Practice the 'opposite' of your temptation immediately when it arises.
- Pray daily for the Holy Spirit to 'clothe' you in grace and patience.
Danger Sign
Thinking that 'not sinning' is the same as 'growing in holiness.' A hollow heart is a vulnerable heart; an empty house invites unwanted guests.
Scriptures
Ephesians 4:22-24
Colossians 3:12-14
Romans 13:14

N – Notice: Pay attention to your heart
Killing sin requires a watchful heart. We must learn to pause and notice the subtle shifts in our desires, the potholes that lead us astray, and the moments when we are most prone to drift from the gospel. This is not about self-obsession, but a Christ-centered focus.
Key Truths
- Sin starts in the heart before it shows up in our actions (James 1:14-15).
- Self-examination is a tool for repentance but must not lead to self-condemnation.
- The Holy Spirit is the one who convicts and provides the clarity we need to see clearly.
Action Steps
- Daily Review: Spend 5 minutes at the end of the day asking, 'Where did I lack trust in God today?'
- Identify Potholes: Note the times, places, or emotions that often precede a specific sin.
- Pray for Sight: Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal 'hidden faults' that you might not yet see.
Scriptures
Psalm 139:23–24
Proverbs 4:23
Hebrews 3:12–13
Beware of 'Gospel Amnesia'—forgetting that you are already loved and forgiven in Christ as you look at your sin.
Danger Sign
G – Grace: Remember God’s power at work in you
Our fight against sin is not a bootstraps operation; it is fueled by God’s grace, not our own failing strength. Grace is not just the safety net for when we fail, but the engine that empowers our progress. We cling to the truth that apart from Him we can do nothing, but through Him, all things are possible.
Key Truths
- God who began a good work will bring it to completion.
- It is God who works in you, both to will and to work.
- Every victory and right choice is from the work of God in you.
- Without grace, all effort would be useless.
Action Steps
- After each failure, preach the gospel to yourself: “Christ died for this specific sin.”
- Write down 3 ways God has already changed you since you first believed.
- When you feel defeated, read Romans 8:1 and say it out loud.
- Thank God for one specific victory over sin this week, no matter how small.
Danger Sign
You start believing you’re beyond help, or you think you don’t need help at all. Both are lies.
Scriptures
Philippians 1:6
Romans 8:1
2 Corinthians 12:9

A Lifelong Fight
Remember that killing sin is a lifelong, grace-fueled fight. You are not alone in this struggle; God is at work in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. Take heart, for the one who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. Keep fighting the good fight of faith.
