SCRIPTURE COLLECTION

Today's Scripture Passage

The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge. There is no speech, nor are there words, whose voice is not heard. Their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them he has set a tent for the sun, which comes out like a bridegroom leaving his chamber, and, like a strong man, runs its course with joy. Its rising is from the end of the heavens, and its circuit to the end of them, and there is nothing hidden from its heat.

Psalm 19:1-6

Notes & Reflections

When I was younger, I used to keep a sketchbook. Many days, I would spend hours drawing trees, bugs, animals, and anything else I could set my eyes on.

The more I observed the world around me, the more I began to see rhythms. The flow of the contours of the bark on a tree, how muscle groups attach to each other, how hair falls down the face, the style of flowers, everything was crafted with extraordinary beauty.

The handiwork of God seemed to go deeper for me than a well-crafted sunset. His handiwork was moving and rhythmic in every area of creation.

The way the horse moves with strength and majesty, the slow bloom of a rose, the fall of a raindrop, all of these things, amongst billions of other things, are flowing through the paintbrush of a master.

He is speaking as an artist speaks. He is revealing His knowledge, so vast that, if one could examine just one piece of His marvelous canvas, he would burst with feelings of awe and wonder.

More than this, the structure and order are beyond accidental. They live with consistency and predictability. They are sustained and held together with extreme care and with great purpose. The Maker of all things has set everything on a foundation that is stable and that moves with such precision and perfection that the greatest of minds are left speechless.

Romans 1:20 says,

“For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So, they are without excuse.”

The voice of creation is telling us of these things. Creation is pouring them out day after day to every man who has ever been blessed by its presence.

The sun rises at His command and fills the sky with joy as it obeys the words of its Master. All of creation sways to the music of a glorious Artist’s stroke.

Indeed, let us spend every day beholding the glories creation reveals. Many days we are running from here to there, always in a hurry, always filled with anxious thoughts, always missing the wonders that flow around us.

Let us slow down and worship. Let us enjoy the One whom Paul talks about in Colossians 1:16-17, when he says,

“For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.”

He was speaking of Jesus.

Jesus is the Artist at work around us today.

Let all of creation praise His name!

What does creation tell us about God?

Creation declares the glory of God, showing His eternal power and divine nature so clearly that no one is without excuse, and it points us to Christ, by whom all things were made and in whom all things hold together (Psalm 19:1; Romans 1:20; Colossians 1:16–17).
