Today's Scripture Passage

When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,

the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,

what is man that you are mindful of him,

and the son of man that you care for him?

Psalm 8:3-4

Notes & Reflections

When we look up, up to the midnight sky, we are but peeking into a small pin hole of vast wonders. Beyond our eye's capabilities are burst of sparks that shoot through dark space and hurl themselves until they dissipate into something of which we know nothing.

Amidst these ferocious balls are giants that move like a dance among one another. None transgressing its command and none stepping out of turn. Colors splash the black canvas with delight, creating in the secret parts, pictures of beauty and magnificence that swirl for the pleasure of our omnipotent God. His workshop of splendor, again and again, reveals his greatness. Though one may ask, "for whom?"

Yet, though he be great, he stoops down upon a fragile and hidden set of creatures who seem so insecure and insignificant amid the large playground they find themselves in. Creatures who work, day and night, usually oblivious to the greatness in which they live. Pitiful creatures, fallen creatures. Each cared for by the hands that spin and orchestrate all that exist.

The only question one of these creatures can ask is,

Why?

Theology Deep Dive: Omnipotence

A power so great that one can barely utter a description of it without sounding like a child describing their favorite color. It is God's abundant and overflowing strength (Psalm 147:5). A strength that flows from infinite understanding. It is a never frustrated power (Isaiah 14:27). It is a power that finds nothing to be difficult (Jeremiah 32:17). It is a power that finds nothing impossible (Luke 1:37).

God is "all powerful." This God formed the great things that exist and who will one day make all things new.

How did God make everything?

Scripture says that God made everything through his word. He spoke and it was so (Genesis 1).
