SCRIPTURE COLLECTION
Today's Scripture Passage
Moreover, by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward. Who can discern his errors? Declare me innocent from hidden faults. Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me! Then I shall be blameless, and innocent of great transgression. Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.

Notes & Reflections
The Word of God always asks men and women to respond.
As the Psalmist considers the handiwork of God found in creation and then the great benefit and beauty of God’s Word, he now turns to prayer. He can’t help but have a conversation with his God.
God is grand in His creation and personal in His Word. He is far above the Psalmist in many aspects, for He is holy, yet He is close enough for the Psalmist to feel that he is in a position to talk to Him.
The Psalmist knows that the Word of God uncovers every part of him. It knows and reveals his soul like the sun reaches every part of the earth.
The Word of God shows every man how sinful he is, even in sins he is unaware of. Men and women don’t truly understand how deep their sin goes. If you ask someone if they deserve hell, they will probably say they don’t think they are honestly that bad. Many, if not most, consider themselves to be good.
The Psalmist, in his love for God’s law, would argue the opposite is true.He says,
“Who can discern his errors? Declare me innocent from hidden faults. Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me!”
For the Psalmist, the sins he was unaware of were frightening to him. He pleads that God won’t allow them to have control. More than this, the Psalmist knows that only God is able to justify him and consider him innocent. Only God can forgive him and clear his guilt. Only God can open his eyes to the true reality of his great need.
If the Psalmist has a way to separate himself from his sin and to have protection, then he knows he can go on. This desire is only possible through God. We find the Psalmist throwing himself on the mercy of God.
Indeed, this is our only hope.
The Psalmist wants to be a man who is acceptable in God’s sight. This happens through faith in God’s work alone. God is our rock and our redeemer.
We worship and serve a great God. He has done mighty and wondrous deeds. He has gone to great lengths to reveal Himself to us and to redeem us back to Himself. We have such a great treasure in Him. Let us submit ourselves to Him and enjoy Him more and more each day.
How can a sinner be found blameless before a holy God?
No one can discern all his errors or cleanse his own hidden faults, so a sinner is declared innocent only by the mercy of God, who forgives and justifies through faith in Christ alone, and keeps His people from the dominion of sin as their rock and redeemer (Psalm 19:12–14; Romans 3:23–26; Romans 6:14).
