Today's Scripture Passage
The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; the fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether.

Notes & Reflections
While the beginning verses (1-6) delight in the handiwork of God, these verses (7-9) now turn to the characteristics and beauty of His Word.
God’s handiwork, by itself, was never able to fully reveal everything that was needed for men and women to understand their Creator. Indeed, with creation by itself, apart from the revelation of God’s Son and the written Word, men with their sinful hearts would fall down in worship of the creation rather than the Creator.
While His power was greatly displayed in what He made, His holiness, mercy, love, and grace were supremely revealed through His Word. While the first showed the handiwork of God, the other revealed His mind. The first offered the idea of God, the other revealed God as He is. One leaves man without excuse as to God’s existence, the other carries the weight of God’s authority and will.
The Word of God has power to give life to a man’s soul. It is perfect (Psalm 19:7) and tells man the truth of the reality around him (Psalm 19:9). It shows him the God who made what his feet now stand on. It gives him boundaries and guidance, making the simple wise (Psalm 19:7). It gives him hope and reasons to rejoice (Psalm 19:8). It gives him worship and purpose. It shows him what pleases God (Psalm 19:9). It tells him about sin and salvation through Christ. It is pure and a light for his path (Psalm 19:8; Psalm 119:105).
It shows the works of God. It shows the wrath of God. It shows the care of God. It shows the mercy of God. It shows the face of God in the man Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 4:6).
What we have is a complete package of the evidence of the one true God. The proof is so plain and so obvious that for a man to miss it is what the Bible calls “suppressing the truth” (Romans 1:18).
Our God is never distant or hiding. He never leaves man to his own ideas, but instead He created and upholds the universe, He has guided all of history, revealed Himself in a book, stepped into His creation, and will one day come again and lead His people forever.
He is a God who has gone above and beyond to reveal Himself. Where would we be if not for Him? What other purpose can uphold our frail existence if He is left out? What is life apart from Him, or enjoyment outside of His ever-gracious love?
He is a glorious God.
He is worthy of all praise, and He is blessed forever.
My prayer for us is 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24,
“Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.”
He has proven His faithfulness to all generations, and He is good and worthy of all our praise.
Why do we need God’s Word if creation already shows His glory?
Creation shows God’s power and leaves every man without excuse, but only His Word reveals His holiness, mercy, love, and grace, revives the soul, makes the simple wise, and shows us the face of God in Jesus Christ (Psalm 19:7–9; Romans 1:20; 2 Corinthians 4:6).
